I Think You’re Brave

Asking for help isn’t easy, is it? We are smart people, but something about asking someone to help us just gets under our skin. Or at least it does for some of us. We are an independent do-it-yourself society. If you haven’t identified yourself, I’m sure you know someone that fits these criteria.

If you’ve realized your need for help, for whatever reason, I think you’re brave.

Whether it be anxiety, stress, an addiction, or an abusive situation. It takes courage. There is no situation big or small that does not require bravery.

Maybe you’ve reached your last ditch effort with anxiety and you reach out and schedule a counseling session.

You are brave.

Maybe your grief seems unbearable yet you muster on every day continuing to give of yourself. Maybe you decide to join a support group and allow yourself time to heal.

You are brave.

Perhaps you are done with the abuse you’ve been receiving behind closed doors, so you seek out assistance for freedom from domestic violence.

You are brave.

Maybe you have had so much alcohol over the years that you’ve watched everything and everyone you know slip away and you admit you need help to stop drinking.

You are brave.

Whatever the reason, I want you to know that your life is not over. None of us know exactly how long we have to live on this earth. Each day is a gift. If you have come to the realization you want to do something to better yourself, you’ve taken an enormous step. A step that you and future generations will not regret. It may not seem like it right now but hold on.

Keep putting one foot in front of the other. Keep choosing to fight when the days are tough. Keep showing up to the counseling sessions, doctor visits, or support groups. For in doing so, you’re making progress.

You are brave.

There are going to be dark nights. There will be moments in which you feel like giving up. There may even be people who don’t believe you or even want to help or encourage you. In all of this, keep going.

You are brave.

Choose to believe in yourself a little more each day than you did the day before. There is a unique plan and purpose for your life. Sometimes you just need to be reminded that you are brave.

1 Peter 5:8-9 NIV

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
