Back to School

Anyone wish they were still in school? Back to the early learning days with the fun learning activities and an afternoon snack? Perhaps a challenging lecture in college right before graduation?

I’m not sure about you, but school wasn’t always easy for me. I was not the best test taker. I could talk about a lot of topics but sitting down to take a test and pick the best answer or all that apply was a little more challenging. Some people just immediately understand things. I was one in which it took a little more time. Or studying.

I don’t exactly want to go back to school. For some of you, learning was a blast. Something you enjoyed wholeheartedly, and you enjoyed the consistent challenge that comes along with learning something new. Some of you still may be learning.

I had a professor in college tell me to never stop learning. Perhaps not necessarily in school for the rest of my life but being mindful about how you approach life. To always be willing to learn how to improve certain skills, learning how to do your job better, or embracing a new hobby.

You could also be going through a season of spiritual growth. I find myself lately asking multiple times a day, “God what is going on?” and “God, what are you trying to teach me?”

Some days are going to be challenging while others will be full of joy and celebration. If we are open to it, we can learn something in all of them. God can use a variety of ways to get our attention. How many times do we go through life without noticing?

I want to be mindful of the ways God speaks to me each day. I want to be aware of the blessings around me. Even in the midst of challenging circumstances, I want to learn what God could be teaching me.

It could be patience while waiting in line for coffee. Maybe it’s kindness with the driver who keeps trying to cut you off in traffic. Perhaps it’s gentleness or self-control in a conversation with your manager. Or unconditional love toward a family member that continues to pull further and further away.

God has something to teach you today. I challenge you not to overlook ways that He may be speaking to you. You can continue to become a better version of you. Don’t miss the learning opportunities that may be out there.

Galatians 5:22-26, NLT

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.  Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.  Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.
