But God

I recently came across these sentences written in my Bible.

There’s always a “but God” in every situation. God never signs off on us.

I had written this likely years ago next to Genesis 50. The first book of the Bible was coming to an end with the story of Joseph coming to a close. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers and ended up spending many years away from his family.

Joseph ended up working with the Egyptian royal line and had new responsibilities leading the local government. I have to wonder if this was a season of doubt for Joseph. Perhaps a season of frustration, or was he incredibly delighted?

I’m sure the story had its ups and downs. As Genesis comes to a close, Joseph is reunited with his brothers and provides comfort to his family after their father died. Joseph didn’t repay evil with evil. He made a promise to his brothers to care for them and their families.

Genesis 50:20 NIV (emphasis mine) - You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

Isn’t that fascinating? That even though Joseph had been through tough seasons, he still had faith in God. Faith that knew God was with him and would always be. Faith to believe that God is always working for and with our best interests in mind. This gives me hope.

Life is hard, but God.

The job fell through, but God.

My loved one died, but God.

The doctor called, its cancer, but God.

He left, but God.

There’s nothing more we can do, but God.

I believe, even when everything wants to tell me otherwise that God is who He says He is. That God is and always will be the same God.

Knowing and choosing to believe that God is who He says He is, changes the game and my perspective. I don’t become immune to the ebbs and flows of life, but I believe that God holds all things together because of His Mighty Power and Authority. I choose to live life with faith because I know what awaits me one day soon in eternity.

God never stops providing for and pursuing us. No matter what we may face, God holds all things together. Choose today, to change your perspective no matter what may be going on.

Psalm 8:3-4 NIV When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?
